AMA Advent: Travel Trend 15: Sports tourism

Sports tourism is on the rise again in 2016, with a particular focus on watersports, cycling and hiking. With the interest in adventure, adrenaline and experience increasing, so is the appeal of sporting holidays.

Next summer Hampshire will once again be hosting the Americas Cup World Series sailing championship in Portsmouth. The best sailors, the fastest boats, watch the excitement and join the action!

It is said that windsurfing was invented on Hampshire’s Hayling Island, so this is the right place to embark on that watersports adventure! The Hampshire coastline has many attractive harbours, marinas and estuaries, providing ideal locations for watersports activities. Experienced or a beginner, the numerous coastal centres will have you covered.

If the more relaxed type of sporting holiday is your thing – The River Hamble, with its annual regatta, is one of the country’s leading yachting centres and many kinds of leisure craft and sailing facilities can be found there. Light sailing on a yacht, drink in hand perhaps? Sounds good!
